Symbio was founded on the principles of symbiosis, defined as the relationship of two or more organisms in close association that benefit each other. Symbio strives to continuously apply such principles with all stakeholder groups. Specifically, the company implements a triple-bottom-line approach in which environmental, social, and financial goals are achieved.

Environmental sustainability is mostly achieved via organic farming, a system in which healthy soil produces healthy plants with high nutrient content and high immunity to resist attacks by diseases and pests. Organic farming closely follows the rules of nature such as recycling natural materials into the soil to maintain fertility and utilizing natural methods of pest and disease control. The result is biodiversity preservation in and around the farms without the need for chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers, growth hormones, antibiotics, and other agrochemicals. The picture on the front of this brochure represents our growing region. We are committed to preserving the rich ecosystem inherent in and around these family farms.

Social sustainability is achieved via paying our farmers a fair price for their produce, as well as assisting them in producing a variety of higher-value items that fulfill market needs. Symbio also guarantees its farmers stable and reliable sales via long-term contracts, a luxury that most conventional farmers in Central and Eastern Europe do not have.

Financial sustainability is achieved by producing economic results that allow Symbio to sustain and grow its operations, providing long-term security and benefits to all stakeholder groups associated with the company.

True sustainability is achieved only when the environment is not degradated in the process of producing and distributing products, when communities are not destroyed in the name of development, and when companies generate earnings and cash flow sufficient to sustain their development.
